An access log is a text file which contains a full report on all the files accessed by your site visitors. All the files which were requested in one way or another will be included, so if you have a PHP script app and a site visitor opens only the home page, for example, you might find many files inside the log. The reason is that there are things on the home page which are embedded - parts of other web pages, pics, etcetera. These files shall be listed within the access log, so that you can get a detailed picture of the way your Internet site performs. The data is in plain text format, so the logs are occasionally called "raw data" as well. An access log contains the name of every requested file, the path to it, the date it was accessed, plus the user’s IP address, world-wide web browser and Operating System. More info, like the referrer site, is sometimes included as well. A log file can be processed by various desktop applications for statistical purposes as an addition to the web stats created by your web server.
Access Log Manager in Shared Hosting
Our custom-built Hepsia Control Panel includes a section dedicated to various logs and the access logs are one of them. Once you sign in to your shared hosting account and take a look at this section, you shall find a list of all the domain names and subdomains that you have. All it takes to allow the generation of access logs is to click on a button that'll be available next to every domain/subdomain. When the option is enabled, you will see a download link as well as the file size so far, so you shall be able to save the file to your PC and examine it or process it with some program. Enabling or disabling the logs takes effect right away, so if you don't require one, you can stop it with just a mouse click from the exact same section of the Control Panel. You shall still be able to access the already created content by simply clicking on the Download link.
Access Log Manager in Semi-dedicated Servers
If you have a semi-dedicated server account with us, it shall not take more than a few clicks to permit the generation of access logs by our system if you need them. The feature may be activated through the Hepsia web hosting Control Panel and this can be done independently for every single domain name or subdomain that you have in your account. As soon as you log in and look at the Access/Error Logs section of the Control Panel, you'll see a list of all the hostnames with an On/Off button next to every one of them. One click shall activate the log generation and another one will disable it, so you can control this function with great ease. A Download link in the same section will allow you to save the generated content as a text file, that you could then use on your computer. Whether or not the logs are deactivated, you'll still be able to download the data that has been previously generated.
